Travel & Hotel

Georgetown University is easily accessible by public transportation. Amtrak services Washington’s Union Station. By air, National Airport (DCA) is the most convenient (it’s very close to the Georgetown campus). Dulles (IAD) and Baltimore Washington International (BWI) are also options, but will require more significant bus/rail/taxi connections.

Metro has a wonderful Trip Planner that will help you navigate the city. Although the DC Metro does not stop at Georgetown, the Rosslyn station is very close. The G2 Metrobus runs from Dupont Circle to the Georgetown campus (see map here).

If taking Metro, from Dupont Circle it’s easy to catch the G2, which drops off at the Georgetown Main Gate on 37th Street at O Street, exactly one short diagonal block to the front door of Lauinger Library, where the Special Collections exhibit will be on Friday.

From Dupont or Rosslyn Metro, visitors to Georgetown can also take the GUTS shuttle. These drop off and pick up near the conference venue. If asked (you won’t be), just show a photo ID and say you’re on Georgetown business. From the Georgetown Law Center, three blocks from Union Station, you can also catch the Law Center GUTS shuttle. For schedules and pick-up locations, click here.

The Circulator (Union Station to Georgetown Route) has a stop on Wisconsin between N and O Streets — it’s a few blocks’ walk due west to Georgetown’s campus.

If driving, there is Visitor parking in the Southwest Garage, accessible from the Canal Road entrance to campus. Use 3611 Canal Road as the address for directions using GPS. There are two-hour meters immediately adjacent to Lauinger Library, and four-hour meters on Prospect Street — but these tend to have filled up by mid-day. The neighborhood to the east of Georgetown’s campus is filled with two-hour free on-street parking — but beware: the meter maids are sticklers. For more details on visitor parking and driving directions, click here.

For those of you arriving by car, please consult Georgetown’s page on driving and parking. Please also consult this Georgetown Campus_Map (download this PDF and print for help when arriving on campus). On the map, The Healey Family Student Center and New South (registration and all panels) are #14; Lauinger Library (pre-conference archival tour) is #12.

1280px-georgetown_confcenter_hotelroom1The conference hotel is solidly booked at this time. We encourage you to check out the many hotels nearby, including those in Rosslyn, just across the river from Georgetown (see, for example the Hyatt Centric Arlington, 1 mile from campus, and also Le Meridien Arlington). AirBnb also has some options close to the Georgetown campus. Hotels near National Airport (a 10-minute taxi ride) may be significantly less expensive.
